Curious
Just a quick question for all you dear readers. What is your favorite type of transformation? Swap, possession, shapeshifter, etc? And why? What about that specific transformation appeals to you over the other? Like why possession over shapeshifting? Just wanted to hear all your thoughts. Thanks!

Possession because the other don't have that much detail and if you combine possession with transformation then that's better

DeletePossession or swap. Shapeshifting I tend to skip over, they just don't appeal to me even mildly.
ReplyDeleteWhat is appealing for me is the character assuming a life that isn't there own, willingly or unwillingly. Also permanence in that the swap could be a one-time thing. With shapeshifting that just isn't there 99% of the time.

ReplyDeleteDefinitely Bodyswaps / Shapeshifting for me. Possessions feel a bit more morally wrong to me, even when compared to forced body swaps.
ReplyDeleteI'm not personally a fan of fantasy caps, but there's obviously interest in them so each to their own :).
I love them all but my favorites are when couples, like boyfriends and girlfriends or husbands and wives, swap bodies and have some "fun" ;)

ReplyDeletePossession of a close friend or family member. I don't like it when wife or girlfriend is possessed because you expect them to feel them up but there's a temptation factor/moral conflict with a close friend or family member
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely body swaps! I find possessions pretty unexciting, generally. I think with swaps it's way more fun because there's the entire other element of what your original body is up to with the other person inside it. Possessions just aren't very thrilling to me.

Shapeshifting/Transformation (especially Ultimate App)
ReplyDeleteEither shapeshifting or TG Virus/Flu. One is forced on you, and makes a brand new girl, and they have to adapt to new form, relationships, desires, etc. The other is a choice to become a woman, either quickly or slowly.

ReplyDeleteFor me, it's shapeshifting due to the freedom and range of identity and how often you can use it to help others in unexpected ways. Possession tends to be more about power and dominance rather than personal freedom. I get the appeal and the world is wide enough for both, but I prefer secret mutual swaps and shapeshifting while in cahoots with a friend.

ReplyDeleteShapeshifting is my favorite because it's controlled by the shapeshifter and it's reversible. If I would transform into a woman, I would never want it to be permanent. I'd just like to sample new forms whenever I chose and revert back to being myself when I had my fill.
ReplyDeleteI love voluntary and temporary swaps. I'd like the idea of temporary trading lives with a female. Something else that I really like is when the swap is known to a few close friends/family. The dialogs in this kind of scenario always gets to me.

DeleteI love the role exchanger captions. There's something about the interplay of physical and mental changes that really makes it interesting for me.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely body swap over possession. In a body swap scenario, they can be either comedic, or serious. I prefer that emotion range, and I just don't think possession caps have that.
ReplyDeleteShapeshifting or Possession, and preferably with it being someone transforming for another (like a shapeshifting girlfriend). I just don't like the instances where there's potential backlash outside the setting such as with a body swap. I like when its something in the character's full control for the benefit of all parties involved (except for the possessee in the case of possession)
ReplyDeleteMorphic Adaptation Unit, except where the machine doesn't break down! You get everything: ethics (stealing people's bodies would be morally wrong), variety (you could be lots of women instead of just the same one all the time), and putting the story in the genre of science fiction rather than fantasy helps with suspension of disbelief.

ReplyDeleteShapeshifting. There's something about being able to change bodies like clothes that I find very alluring. One positive aspect about shapeshifting I really like is that you can take on somebody's form without taking over their minds or exchanging them. Plus you get full control over what you look like. The thing with possession is there is a dark implication behind overriding somebody's mind.
ReplyDeleteWith that being said body hopping is my second favorite form of transformation, for similar reasons as shapeshifting: you get complete control over how you're going to look and who you want to be.

ReplyDeleteI think there should be a poll for this so we can see the numbers on which transformations are the most popular. For me it's shapeshifting because you have more freedom and control over your form than the other ones. It's also a legit superpower you can have fun with in other ways.

ReplyDeleteI'm usually not a fan of caps where someone swaps with one of their parents or grandparents(step-parents not included) but other than that I enjoy all of the transformations, my favorites are body swaps where the people are happy with the results and nobody gets hurt when they don't deserve it

Potentially it makes a better story as a person has to adjust to another's life & at the same time wacth someone else live their life.
Also, it has the advantage of 'the gift to give us to see ourselves as other see us'
It has a great range of plots, it can be funny, weird, horror, dramatic, revenge, 'learning a lesson', gettting power or beautfy, etc.
MOst possession stories have to have an element of horror - especially permanent ones.
Body swap and possession are my favorites, not a big fan of transformation.

ReplyDeleteThe methode of the switch is second to the motive of the switch for me, also longer stories with an overaching plot are imo more interesting.

ReplyDeleteI like it when the swapped has no control. Swapping, great shift, theft, older women stealing a young guys body, forced adaptation and acceptance do it for me. Shapshifting has no consequence to were it may have not ever happened to begin with and possession hasn't been my cup of tea
